Mar de Ajo / Sea of Garlic, is a resort and tourist town on the Atlantic Coast in Argentina, founded on December 21, 1935, and located 360 kms from the city of Buenos Aires it is also "The capital of the white croaker" - a white croaker is a type of fish.
Mar de Ajo is the city with the largest permanent population on the Atlantic Coast (Mar del Plata is virtually empty in low season) it offers spacious, quiet and large gently sloping beaches, on which can be found many clams and other types of shellfish. Due to increasing environmental awareness the beaches are clean, and offer a warm and cordial atmosphere. The coast and see possess a special feature in that over a few hours, the sea changes color, from blue to gold and then to green depending on the wind direction. There is also the unusual tourist attraction of the graveyard of ships that are found off its coast. This has a special charm because as there are many stories told about these vessels and the circumstances that led them to run aground and become shipwrecks.

Mar de Ajo is characterized by a landscape that combines trees with houses and buildings, on the Central Avenue one can see a monument 10 meters high, this is the "The Liberator of the Sea" which is a tribute to General José d San Martin and represents the landing of the General at Paracas Bay, Peru.

At night the pier is lit up, the city also has businesses that specialize in offering guided fishing trips that allow the possilibity of the enthusiast fisherman fishing with a native guide.
